So i stopped and i saw smoke coming from under the car near the brakes on the driver s side.
2002 taurus brakes go to the floor.
The ford taurus features front disc brakes and either disc or drum rear brakes depending on the model year and installed options.
Then braking resumed to normal for next 10 stops.
The more the brakes are used the hotter the brake fluid gets.
Follow this procedure to replace the disc brakes on your ford taurus.
I pumped the brakes and the car eventually stopped.
Start again starting from the longest line bleeding each in turn to the shortest line.
The final reason for a brake pedal to go to the floor is failing axle bearing.
2002 ford taurus with anti lock brakes.
Remove the cover from the brake master.
Axle bearings hold the brake rotor true without play while they both rotate.
Pedal went to floor and continued for the next 5 stops.
I also began to smell something burning.
If you hit your ford f 150 or super duty s brake pedal and it goes to the floor stop the vehicle and don t drive it until you find a solution to this problem.
If this bearing goes bad it will allow the brake rotor it move back and fourth which pushes the caliper piston back into the caliper creating an air gap.
There s one more thing that could be causing the brake pedal to go all the way to the floor.
The hotter the brake fluid gets the more liquid it becomes.
Fluid level at max no leaks noticed.
Make sure you have adjusted up the rear brakes before bleeding as every time you press on the pedal the shoes expand right out and when you take your foot off the pedal the shoes go all the way back in.
I got back in the car to test the brakes out around the parking lot.
Then pedal went to floor next 3 stops.
For the pedal to go to the floor there is still air in the brake system.
Adjust them manually and do not.
When you bled the brakes after replacing the pads did you do it the normal way diy ers do it by having an assistant press on the pedal til it nearly hits the floor while you open and close the bleeder screw in sync with the pedal press.
The pedal will go all the way to the floor and the car will be harder to stop.
Maybe just taking the car in for a pressure bleed is the safer alternative.
